Speaker Spotlight – Karen Arnold

With WordCamp fast approaching we’d like to take some time and introduce you to our speakers and sponsors. We will do this through blog posts here on the site. Our first spotlight is going to be on Karen Arnold of K Design. Not only is Karen a speaker at WordCamp Albuquerque, she is also the mastermind behind the event!

Karen, what is the name of your company and can you tell us something about yourself?

My company is K Design and I live in Albuquerque with my husband and 4 kiddos.

Can you tell us why you love WordPress?

I love WP because it is so easy to use, for me and for my clients. I have been using it since about 2005 after my brother succeeded in convincing me it was better than other frameworks that shall remain nameless.

What is your topic for WordCamp?

At WordCamp, I’m going to talk speak about WordPress Multisites, aka site/blog networks. WordPress Multisites let users manage many sites at once. Their sites share plugins, themes, and can be upgraded at the same time instead of one by one. Multisites are perfect for real estate brokerages with agents who need their own site, schools that have teachers who need their own classroom sites, families with multiple blogs that would be easier to manage as a group, and much much more.

What do you hope attendees learn from your session?

My first installation of a Multisite was a bit scary. There were pieces that seemed pretty high tech, but once I worked through it a few times I realized it is actually quite simple if you just go step by step. So I would hope people who come to this session will learn the steps, the common pitfalls and the tricks to make successful WordPress Multisites.

How do you use WP in your business?

I design exclusively on WordPress, I will work on other sites, but WordPress is just so much more fun, why would I do anything else?

Thank you Karen!

  1. I’m looking forward to Karen’s session on multisites, I spend so much time every day updating each site individually. Ultimately some get neglected. It will be nice to both save time and to keep my sites more updated.
