You know this, but does your boss?\u00a0<strong>Do you need help convincing your boss to send you to WordCamp Albuquerque?<\/strong>\u00a0If the answer is yes, read on!<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-1715\"><\/span>First of all, don\u2019t be afraid of asking your boss to send you to an event. The worst that they can say is no. Approach your boss with\u00a0<strong>enthusiasm, both for your job and for the event<\/strong>. Think about the reasons that you should attend WordCamp Albuquerque<span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0and address the issue head-on. Build your case and present it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>1. WORDCAMP ALBUQUERQUE IS UNIQUE<\/h2>\n<p>WordCamp Albuquerque is\u00a0<strong>the biggest WordPress event in New Mexico<\/strong>\u00a0and it is unique in that it brings together the\u00a0<strong>best <a href=\"https:\/\/2018.albuquerque.wordcamp.org\/speakers\/\">speakers<\/a> in the WordPress community<\/strong>\u00a0as well as speakers from outside to share their insights. WordCamp Albuquerque is a <strong>great\u00a0value.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>2. HOW WILL IT IMPROVE YOUR JOB?<\/h2>\n<p>Read through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/2018.albuquerque.wordcamp.org\/wc-schedule\/\">schedule<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>identify<\/strong>\u00a0those specific talks that you are\u00a0<strong>planning to attend<\/strong>. WordCamp Albuquerque will have a broad range of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/2018.albuquerque.wordcamp.org\/speakers\/\">talks<\/a>\u00a0so it\u2019s helpful to\u00a0<strong>highlight the ones that will help you to grow and develop<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It can also help to contextualize the talks you want to see in relation to projects that you are working on. Your boss has to think about the benefit to the overall company, as opposed to just your needs. Points that you can raise are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>that talks will help you when\u00a0<strong>building<\/strong>\u00a0current or future projects<\/li>\n<li>that you will learn about\u00a0<strong>new technologies<\/strong>\u00a0that you can use in your projects<\/li>\n<li>that you will find potential\u00a0<strong>new hires<\/strong>\u00a0for the company<\/li>\n<li>that you will widen the\u00a0<strong>company\u2019s business network<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>that you will be able to talk about and promote a\u00a0<strong>new product<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>that you will be able to find\u00a0<strong>new collaborators and industry partners<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tailor your goals for the event to the current goals for your company. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>if your company is focusing on hiring, tell your boss that you will\u00a0<strong>actively look for\u00a0people\u00a0to hire<\/strong>\u00a0and set a goal for bringing five potential new hires to the company.<\/li>\n<li>if your company is looking for a design partner, aim to\u00a0<strong>speak to design agencies and bring back leads<\/strong>\u00a0for your boss to follow up.<\/li>\n<li>if your company is thinking of changing hosting providers, plan to\u00a0<strong>talk to hosting representatives<\/strong>\u00a0about what they can offer and report back.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>TIPS<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>ask your boss for a\u00a0<strong>list of contacts<\/strong>\u00a0that they\u2019d like you to meet<\/li>\n<li>tailor your pitch to\u00a0<strong>match<\/strong>\u00a0your company\u2019s goals<\/li>\n<li>put together a\u00a0<strong>budget<\/strong>\u00a0so that your boss knows exactly what the\u00a0<strong>costs<\/strong>involved will be<\/li>\n<li>pick the\u00a0<strong>right time<\/strong>\u00a0to talk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Good luck!
